Longboat Key condo building fire

LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Longboat Key firefighters said they and other area agencies responded to a condo building fire that was contained to an air system in an apartment on the 12th floor.

Firefighters said it happened at about 11:30 p.m. Friday night at the Sea Gate Condos on the 2500 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive.

While en-route, crews were informed the caller stated there was an explosion on the 13th floor with smoke coming into her apartment on the 12th floor, officials said.

When firefighters arrived, they didn’t see anything until they went up to the 12th floor and discovered it in an air system.

Firefighters said a resident is the one that pulled the fire alarm alerting all the other residents to get out.
