Winter Haven teacher dies after crash

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Polk County Sheriff’s deputies said a local teacher died after a crash Thursday.

Deputies said it happened around 4:45 p.m.

Deputies said the driver of a blue pickup truck was travelling east on US hwy 92 (Lake Shore Way) when witnesses said he ran a red light crashing into a black Camry driven by 44-year-old Shirelle Baldwin of Lakeland.

Deputies said Baldwin was declared deceased on-scene. 

Deputies said her passenger, 18-year-old Taniea Baldwin, whom she is not related to, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Deputies also said the driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Taniea is a student at New Beginnings High School in Winter Haven, according to the PCSO, where Baldwin was employed as a teacher.
